Restoring Balance, Energy, and Inner Peace
In a world that moves faster than our bodies and minds can often keep up with, moments of stillness can feel rare. Reiki invites us back into that stillness. A gentle return to presence and harmony within.
Jennifer Kanyumwa, founder of Mujen Community, practices Usui Reiki, a traditional Japanese healing art that channels universal life energy to calm the mind, ease tension, and support deep emotional and physical well-being.
A Brief History of Usui Reiki
Reiki originated in Japan in the early 1900s with Dr. Mikao Usui, who developed the practice after years of studying ancient healing traditions and spiritual philosophies.
The word Reiki comes from two Japanese words:
Rei meaning universal or spiritual
Ki meaning life energy
Together, they form Reiki, or “universal life energy.” Usui Reiki was passed down through generations as both a healing art and a spiritual practice that nurtures harmony between body, mind, and spirit.
How Reiki Works: Energy, Chakras, and Flow
Everything in the universe is made of energy, including you. When that energy is flowing freely, you feel vibrant, calm, and alive. But when stress, emotional wounds, or daily overwhelm accumulate, energy can become stagnant or blocked.
Reiki works by channeling life force energy through the practitioner’s hands into the client’s energy field and body. This energy naturally moves where it is most needed, clearing blockages, calming the nervous system, and activating the body’s own ability to heal.
During a session, Jennifer may intuitively focus on the chakras, the seven main energy centers of the body, helping to rebalance them so that energy can flow freely once again.
The Benefits of Reiki
Reiki supports healing on every level, physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual.
Common benefits include:
Deep relaxation and stress relief
Improved sleep and energy levels
Emotional release and clarity
Relief from tension and physical discomfort
Support during transitions or periods of change
A feeling of being grounded, centred, and connected
Physical healing from ailments
Many clients describe it as “a reset for the soul,” a moment where everything inside softens and realigns.
In-Person Reiki Sessions
In-person Reiki sessions allow you to experience the soothing presence of touch and grounded connection. You will rest fully clothed on the treatment table as Jennifer gently places her hands on or above different areas of the body.
Clients often notice sensations of warmth, gentle pressure, or subtle waves of energy that bring calm and renewal. Each session is unique and what you experience will be unique to you.
In-person sessions can be booked at Zen Active Therapy in Burnaby or directly through the Mujen Community offerings page.
These sessions are ideal for those seeking a restorative experience in a peaceful environment where energy and intention meet in harmony.
The Power of Distant Reiki
Energy transcends physical space, which means Reiki can be shared across any distance. During a distant Reiki session, Jennifer connects to your energy field through focused intention and the Reiki symbols taught in the Usui tradition.
Clients often feel the same sensations and benefits as in-person sessions, warmth, tingling, relaxation, or emotional release, while resting comfortably in their own home.
Distant Reiki is a wonderful option for anyone who feels unwell, is in the hospital, lives far away, or simply wants to receive healing energy while cozy and relaxed at home.
It reminds us that energy knows no boundaries and that connection and healing are always available, no matter where you are.
If you’d like to experience Reiki from the comfort of your home, book a distant Reiki session and receive gentle energy wherever you are.
A Glimpse Inside a Session
Each Reiki session with Jennifer is guided by intuition and tailored to your unique needs. You may be invited to set an intention for your healing or simply receive whatever your body and spirit most need in the moment.
Soft music, gentle guidance, and soothing energy create a space of safety and surrender. Each session is unique, yet most clients leave feeling lighter, restored, and more connected to themselves.

Cultivating Self-Love:
"Self-love is more than just a concept—it’s a practice. Discover mindful rituals, inner child healing techniques, and self-compassion exercises to reconnect with yourself. Explore Reiki, breathwork, and meditation at Mujen Community to support your healing journey."
Mindful Practices for Healing and Growth
February is often associated with love—but what if we turned that focus inward? At Mujen Community, we believe that self-love is the foundation for healing, creativity, and a balanced life. Yet, for many, embracing self-love can feel challenging, especially when old wounds or limiting beliefs get in the way. This month, let’s explore mindful practices that nurture self-compassion, heal the inner child, and help you reconnect with yourself on a deeper level.
What Is Self-Love, Really?
For years, I believed that self-love was something you earned—something you had to be 'good enough' for. I poured my energy into work, into others, into doing more, thinking that would finally make me feel worthy. But it never did. When I was first introduced to inner child healing practices, I resisted them—not because they seemed simple, but because I didn’t see their value. Within a week, my coach and another mentor in a mystic intuitive program I was taking both asked me to do an inner child exercise, and I could no longer run from it. One of the tasks was to find a childhood photo, but all my pictures were buried deep in storage, and I couldn’t be bothered to dig one out. My mentor pointed out, ‘What does it say about how you value yourself if you have yourself buried and collecting dust?’ That moment hit me hard. Later, another mentor told me, ‘You are so kind to others, but you don’t extend that same kindness to yourself. Would you ever say the things you say to yourself to someone else?’ That was another mic-drop moment—one that was filled with so much truth. It wasn’t until I fully allowed myself to explore these practices that I realized self-love isn’t about doing—it’s about being. It’s about embracing who we are, as we are. If you’re struggling with this, I see you. And I want you to know, healing is possible.
Self-love isn’t just about bubble baths or affirmations—though those can be wonderful! In fact, I once had a hot chocolate in the bathtub that felt deeply healing for my inner child—something so simple, yet it created a moment of pure comfort and self-connection. It’s about honouring your needs, setting boundaries, speaking to yourself with kindness, and making choices that align with your well-being. When we practice self-love, we send a powerful message to ourselves: I am worthy. I am enough.
Mindful Practices to Cultivate Self-Love
Self-love isn’t something we achieve overnight; it’s a practice, a daily choice to show up for ourselves in meaningful ways. Here are a few ways to deepen your self-love journey:
Inner Child Healing Rituals
Take a moment to reflect on your younger self. What did they need to hear? Write them a letter offering the love and reassurance they may not have received.
Engage in playful activities you loved as a child—painting, dancing, storytelling—without judgment or expectation.
Breathwork for Self-Compassion
Try a simple breathwork practice: Inhale deeply for four counts, hold for four, and exhale for four. As you breathe, repeat a loving mantra such as, I am safe, I am loved, I am whole.
Reiki and Energy Healing
Self-love is also about energetic balance. Reiki can help release old emotional wounds, restore harmony, and create space for deep healing. A Reiki session at Mujen Community is a beautiful way to nurture your spirit and reconnect with yourself.
Meditation for Self-Acceptance
Close your eyes and place your hand over your heart. Take a few deep breaths and visualize a warm, healing light surrounding you. Let go of self-judgment and simply be with yourself in the moment.
Journaling for Self-Discovery
Ask yourself: Where am I holding onto self-criticism? How can I show myself more kindness? Writing your thoughts down helps to process emotions and release what no longer serves you.
The Healing Power of Self-Love
When we commit to self-love, we create a ripple effect in every area of our lives. Our relationships improve, our creativity flows, and we begin to live in alignment with our true selves. It’s not selfish—it’s necessary.
